Houndpack Lance – March RTT Army List Breakdown

On the eve of battle, I’m here to share my Houndpack Lance list for the upcoming RTT.

Below is a quick summary, with the full 40k app list at the end of the post.

Houndpack Lance – 2000pts

4x Brigands – Havocs
4x Stalkers – Daemonbreath Spears, Claws, Havocs
5x Huntsmen – Meltaguns

Allies:
2x3 Nurglings
1x Beast of Nurgle

That’s 13 War Dogs backed up by 3 Daemon units.

Why No Karnivores?

The most common question I get is: “Where are the Karnivores?”

Simply put they haven’t been pulling their weight.

In my experience, opponents are increasingly able to play around them. They screen effectively, stay outside realistic charge ranges, or use reactive movement to shut them down. Even when they do make combat, enemies either fall back to avoid Fight on Death or just stay locked in and shoot them, thanks to the vehicle keyword.

Because of that, I’ve shifted toward War Dogs that operate effectively in multiple phases. The only exception is Brigands, whose volume of fire still makes them valuable especially into horde armies or as early-game trading pieces.

Right now, it’s very much guns over combat in the 41st millennium.

UKTC Terrain Considerations

This RTT will be played on UKTC terrain and layouts.

While I haven’t played loads in 2026 yet, I’ve got plenty of reps on these boards so I’ll be relying on muscle memory to carry me through this weekend.

One key factor is the large distances between staging areas UKTC often creates. Karnivores can struggle here, needing to cross significant distances before becoming relevant. That’s another reason they’re currently out of the list.

That said, I have been list building and contemplating with lists running three Karnivores to play with different War Dogs, so it’s not off the table long term, just not for this event.

Enhancements

I’ve stuck with my usual staples:

Preyslayer’s Mantle (Stalker)
A super-heavy early game threat. Great for punishing infiltrators or aggressive expansion plays, but equally effective held back—projecting a large threat range from safe staging positions (especially around UKTC’s large L-shaped ruins).

Final Howl (Brigand)
Re-rolling 1s to hit within 6". A simple but valuable boost to reliability across both shooting and combat.

Daemon Allies

2x3 Nurglings

1x Beast of Nurgle

These are purely here for backfield screening.

Right now, there’s a lot of “uppy-downy” in the local meta, Seer Council Aeldari, Deathwatch, Daemons, and more. I need cheap, effective ways to deny deep strike and protect my deployment zone/home objective.

For the cost of a 14th War Dog, I instead get three units that can screen the entire backfield freeing up all 13 War Dogs to push forward aggressively.

Final Thoughts

That’s the list, locked, loaded, and ready to go.

It leans into board control, shooting efficiency, and aggressive pressure, while still respecting the current meta threats.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for the battle report (hopefully next week).

Wish me luck!
