Houndpack Lance Practice and Tournament Prep Discussion

The past few weeks have been rough health-wise. I came down with a nasty bout of gamer flu after the last RTT in October, and just as I was recovering, I got hit with another round of illness. The result? Absolutely zero 40k games played since winning that RTT in October!!

However I played a really good practice game into the new White Scars detachment recently, see photos dotted below.

On the bright side, all that forced downtime gave me plenty of time to think about 40k—specifically the Houndpack Lance detachment and how I want to run it going into the winter event season.

Last weekend I had two list submission deadlines:

an RTT coming up this weekend, and

the start of our Teams League, which runs for the next few months with one game every two weeks.

For both the RTT and Round 1 of the league, I’m running the exact same list:

2000pts on the nose:

3 Executioners (one upgraded to a character)

5 Stalkers – melta/claw + havoc launchers (Final Howl & Preyslayer’s Mantle)

5 Huntsman – meltaguns

1×10 Plaguebearers

1 Beast of Nurgle

Anyone who reads my humble blog knows my longstanding hatred of Nurglings, so you can imagine my delight at finally being able to drop them and scrape together 25 points for a Beast of Nurgle instead. A real quality-of-life upgrade!

I’ve managed one practice game with this list so far, and it was a very solid win into the new White Scars Spearpoint detachment. The game was extremely cagey early on, but when my opponent committed, heavy reserves let me hammer the flanks and swing the game decisively, pulling out a 16-point win.

A great way to shake off the rust before this weekend’s RTT and the first round of the Teams League next week. More on the league soon! Along with RTT Tournament report!
