From Houndpack to World Eaters – Embracing Aggression

Having recently shared my RTT experience with Houndpack Lance here: https://roadtoglory40k.blogspot.com/2026/01/steel-city-rtt-first-tournament-of-2026.html I wanted to take a step back and reflect on what comes next.

Back at the end of 9th edition, I made a mistake I still think about. I played a single practice game with a very “silly” Aeldari combat list on paper, at least. At the time, Aeldari were considered fairly balanced. I submitted the list anyway to a GT, went 4–1, finishing 3rd and immediately regretted not committing to it earlier. I’d had the idea and the models in my collection for months, but never put it properly on the table. That hesitation cost me a fun few months at the end of an edition.

I don’t want to be in that position again.

So far, I’ve played exclusively with Houndpack Lance for five RTTs, along with all my practice games inbetween, ive documented everything on this blog and while I’ve enjoyed the journey, it feels like the right moment to broaden my experience.

To be clear, I still think Houndpack Lance is very well positioned in the current meta. Many of its natural bad matchups are becoming less common, and there’s a strong argument for sticking with it. However, I want to get meaningful table time with another faction rather than constantly wondering “what if?”

As mentioned before, I don’t get to play as often as some others. That means I need to fully commit to one faction at a time and make only minor adjustments, rather than bouncing between lists and never mastering any of them.

With that in mind, it’s time to decide what I’m running going forwards.

After a lot of deliberation, I’ve settled on World Eaters as my focus for the next few months.

This isn’t a random switch. World Eaters were a faction I seriously considered before landing on Houndpack in the first place. Their aggressive, pressure-based playstyle aligns closely with how I naturally want to approach the final few months of 10th edition, and in many ways they represent what I’ve been trying to achieve with Houndpack on the table.

Recent changes to UKTC terrain particularly the increase in density only reinforce that decision. Denser boards reward melee pressure armies, and that environment plays directly into World Eaters’ strengths.

That said, the wider meta does feel more hostile. Vextrix, C’tan, and Drukhari have all received boosts in one form or another, and none of those are trivial matchups.

But that’s not a reason to shy away.

If anything, it’s an opportunity to express player skill, refine decision-making in combat, and continue developing a playstyle I’ve been enjoying more and more.

To kick things off, this Friday will be my first game with World Eaters as I begin practice for a February RTT.

The list will follow once I’ve finalised it!!
