Welcome to my March RTT tournament report! I’ll be running through all three games I played with Chaos Knights: Houndpack Lance hope you enjoy the read.
First off, a big thank you to the TOs, support staff, and all attendees for creating a great atmosphere and delivering three excellent games of 40k.

4x Stalkers
5x Huntsman
2x3 Nurglings
1x Beast of Nurgle
Tournament Overview
This RTT brought a solid mix of players, from regular tournament veterans to newer faces on the scene — a great balance overall.
Tournament Format:
3-round RTT, 2000pts, matched play
Players: 23 registered (1 drop)
Terrain: UKTC layouts throughout
Game 1 – Win vs Tyranids (89–48)
Opponent’s list: Heavy on Lictors (including Neurolictors), Screamer Killers, and 3x6 Zoanthropes. With Synaptic Nexus in play, there were plenty of ways to stack battleshock modifiers.
I deployed conservatively, staying out of Zoanthrope range early, and pushed aggressively into weaker areas of the board. My approach was to trade War Dogs to deny primary scoring while gradually removing key threats.
This worked extremely well overall, although I made a few costly mistakes:
1- Left a War Dog in reserves until turn 4 and therefore died in reserve.
2- Missed an action (Recover Assets) for a full turn - oops.
3- Failed to declare two obvious charge into Zoanthropes on a flank.
My opponent graciously offered me take backs, but all would have caused in game affects.
Despite these errors, the overall game plan carried me through comfortably.
Game 2 – Win vs Adepta Sororitas (93–56)
Going into round two, I faced Adeptus Sororitas featuring loads of melta, triole Retributors, Morvenn Vahl, and double Sacresant units.
This game turned into a full-on brawl in the centre of the table. Fortunately, the fight revolved around objectives, and my opponent didn’t commit aggressively enough early on. That allowed me to consistently pressure objectives with War Dogs, denying primary while scoring my own.
A solid win, with a bit of fortune, particularly with Sacresants (damage 2 with Lethal Hits) struggling to efficiently bring down War Dogs.
Game 3 – Win vs Adeptus Custodes (75–69)
Opponent’s list:
Triple Blade Champions, triple 4 Wardens and triple 4 Guard with 1 Shield in each unit, 3x2 Allarus squads, 2x 4Witchseekers, and a Callidus Assassin.
This was a very tight, grindy game from start to finish. Custodes durability made every trade matter, but I managed to do just enough damage to push through Wardens and Guard while containing the Allarus pressure on my home, doing a cheeky charge with Nurglings and which kept them held up, JUST.
My opponent scored a couple of early Terraforms, which kept things close, but I was able to edge ahead and secure a narrow win.
Final Result
3–0 record, finishing 2nd overall.
The winner only dropped a couple of points all day, so a very well-deserved 1st place for them.
Closing Thoughts
I absolutely loved running Houndpack Lance again, it still feels viable, flexible, and rewarding when the trades are managed well.
I’m not sure how many practice games I’ll get in before the next event, but I’ll be back with another report in April, stay tuned!
