May Tournament Army List - Houndpack Lance

With list submission just around the corner, I’m already locked in for my final tournament of 10th edition as we edge closer and closer to 11th.

There are no surprises this time around. No last-minute tech choices, no experimental swaps, and unfortunately no practice games either. The list remains exactly the same as last month, which honestly tells you everything you need to know about where I currently stand with Houndpack Lance.

At this point, the list feels refined. Every unit has a purpose, every activation matters, and the overall game plan is something I’m extremely comfortable piloting. Rather than chasing new ideas right before a major event, I’d rather lean into reps, familiarity, and strong macro play.

The List:
Armoury Houndpack (2000 points)

Chaos Knights
Strike Force (2000 points)
Houndpack Lance

Thoughts on the List

I genuinely think this is my refined version of Houndpack Lance.

Thirteen War Dogs backed up by four Nurgle utility units gives the army a really strong balance between pressure, mission play, and trading efficiency. The list has enough bodies to contest primary aggressively while still maintaining meaningful damage output throughout the game.

The Huntsmen and Stalkers continue to be the backbone of the list for me. Reliable anti-tank, solid melee pressure, and enough flexibility to threaten a wide variety of targets. Meanwhile, the Stalkers bring the aggressive mid-board presence the army needs, bring in the Huntsmen once games start becoming scrappy in turns two, three and four.

The Executioners are still quietly one of the most important parts of the army. They provide consistent ranged pressure, force awkward movement from opponents, and help soften targets before the melee pieces commit.

The Nurgle allies continue doing exactly what they need to do: scoring, screening, move blocking, and generally being irritating little objective goblins. They give the list just enough utility to smooth out some of the weaknesses pure War Dog spam can sometimes have.

The Missions

The event is using UKTC missions, and the three rounds are:

Sweeping Engagement – Terraform
Search and Destroy – Hidden Supplies
Crucible of Battle – Purge the Foe

On paper, I don’t mind this set at all. There’s a good mix of mission pressure, board control, and killing power required across the three rounds, which generally suits Houndpack Lance quite well.

Terraform in particular can reward aggressive board positioning early, while Hidden Supplies often becomes a game of efficient trading and staging. Purge the Foe is likely to be the bloodbath of the event, where pacing the game and target priority will matter massively.

Final Thoughts

Going into my final event of 10th edition, I feel confident with where the army is at. The list isn’t flashy, and it certainly isn’t trying to reinvent Chaos Knights, but it plays a strong, honest game of Warhammer.

At this stage of the edition, that matters more than trying to force in the newest tech piece or surprise inclusion. Comfort, understanding your game plan, and knowing exactly how your list functions into different archetypes is often worth far more than squeezing out a marginally stronger datasheet.

Hopefully I can close out 10th edition with a strong result before the long wait for 11th begins. I’ll have a full tournament report up after the event covering the games, matchups, and how the list performed into the current meta.
